I spend way too much time on Pinterest. This idea floated through my news feed a couple of years ago but I had not tried it yet. It was time! I’d had a rough day and I needed something fun to do.

First you have to find which side naturally stays up so you know your face carving will be up when you’re done. Gently roll it around a little to see which side naturally stays up.

I used the picture I found on Pinterest and etched some guidelines onto the face of my squash.

Then I cut sections into the parts I need to hallow out and grabbed a fork to pry out the chunks.

Once the big chucks were removed I used a spoon to scrape out the inside of the mouth to hallow it out. The meat is rather soft to work with.

Once the mouth was open and ready, I used a star peeler to remove the skin. This reveals the veins on the flesh of the squash. It gave the whole projects a spookier look!

I scraped the teeth in gently with the blade of my small paring knife. Be sure to give a gum line to the teeth.

Next, you can use a spoon to carve in eye sockets. The spoon can also be used to smooth down any sharp edges on the face.

Cutting in facial bones was tricky. It’s best to do a little at a time until you like what you have done. Then stop so you don’t go too far.

I used a triangle cut to create the nose bones. You will need the paring knife for this job. You will dig the meat out of the inside of the nose and from around the outside of the nose too. Then use a spoon to smooth it all down and give the appearance of bone.

I used pimento cheese dip and some crackers to finish him off. This was so much fun! If you have a Halloween party coming up I can recommend this for holding dips, candy, or just as a table decoration. So much fun!

Thanks for being here! Y’all be sweet! 🖤🐝

I wish you the best in your new endeavor. I relive my farm life through you but now I’m a city girl and miss the farm. Growing up on the farm made me the individual I am and I deeply thank my parents for that who have passed through the years. Enjoy your time with your Mom and I will be watching and supporting you every day. Hugs and follow your dreams.
Thank you! We will still have horses and cows and dogs, maybe a few other things but it will definitely be an adjustment for me.
So clever, love it.
