Baked pear parfait

A taste way to serve pears!

I have a wonderful Keifer pear tree in my yard that has recently started producing a bumper crop. the limbs hang low, almost breaking, with beautiful fruit. My family has a strong addiction to pear preserves and so I chose to plant Keifer pears for the versatility. These pears are great for preserving but you can also enjoy them straight off the tree, baked in a pie, or (as I have recently discovered) in a parfait type of dish. Parfaits useably have yogurt and berries so I realize I am stepping out of the box on the name of this recipe but this is my story and I’m sticking to it.

My Keifer Pear tree

Choose ripe fruit that is free from bruising. Pears that are softer are considered more ripe that the greenish colored pears and could bake in less time. Harder greener pears may take longer that the recommended bake time.

I used a star peeler to remove the skins of the pears without wasting the pear. With the metal tablespoon, I was able to scoop out the core and leave a perfect circle in the middle. I think they turned out pretty! I plan to use this same technique when I can pears later this week.

Once all the pears were peeled and the core was removed from each half, I placed them cut side up on a baking pan. You know I’m using my Pampered Chef baking stone! The oven is preheated to 350.

Ain’t that purdy?! Each half was drizzled with local honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. What in the world could be better than that? I love the healthy ingredients combination we have going here! I baked them uncovered at 350 and checked them after 30 minutes.

I let these bake for 35 minutes. Typically, 30 minutes is long enough but my pears were not fully ripe when I started so they took a little longer. Softer pears will bake up and get tender faster so if your pears are still a little green you may need additional time to bake them so they come out tender. Just check them with a fork or a knife to make sure they are soft enough for you before removing them from the oven.

Baked pears are typically served with whipped cream as a desert and I can honestly see why. They are simply delicious! I decided to turn mine into a parfait type snack instead so I put high protein (low carb) yogurt on top and added chopped pecans and additional honey. I can not wait to make this again! I had extra baked pears and stored them in the fridge to make more parfaits out of later and it worked great! I just pulled a baked pear half out of the fridge and dressed it like we did here and it served up nicely. That means you could make these a head of time and save them in the fridge for later. Even Better!
