Blueberry Sweet Rolls

Delicate and just sweet enough to be perfect for breakfast or desert.

I’m going to start this post with an apology. What I’m about to show you is very dangerous because it’s sooooo good. I’m also going to say “You’re welcome” because it’s sooooo easy.

What you’ll need:

9×13 baking dish, measuring cups, measuring spoons, a couple of bowls, a surface to roll the dough out and something to roll it out with (rolling pin), a sharp knife, a couple of measuring spoons, and a fork.

Ingredients: 1 stick of butter, 2 cups self-rising flour, 1/2 cup shortening, one package dried yeast, 1/4 cup room temp water, 1 cup heavy cream, 2 cups blue berries, sprinkle of cinnamon, 1 cup sugar and one cup water combined for a simple syrup.

Place one stick of butter in a 9×13 glass baking dish. Place dish with butter in the oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees F so butter can melt.

Mix 1/4 cup warm water with dry active yeast and a pinch of sugar. Stir and set aside.

Combine 1 cup warm water with one cup sugar. Stir until sugar melts. This is your simple syrup for the final step before baking.

In a mixing bowl, combine flour and shortening with a fork until mixture resembles crumbs consistency. Create a well in the center of the flour and pour the yeast into the well. Fold the yeast into the flour a yew times until barely mixed in. Pour in heavy cream and stir until dough ball forms.

Turn dough out onto floured surface and flip a few times to coat in flour. Using a floured rolling pin, roll dough out to a 10x 12 rectangle.

Place blueberries in a bowl and sprinkle with cinnamon. Pour blue berries on dough and spread evenly. With a light coat of flour on your hands, pull up the edge of the dough and begin to roll it up as you would a jelly roll. Cut 1 inch slices and place in pan on melted butter. When you’ve placed all the rolls in the pan, swivel the pan around to ensure the melted butter is evenly dispersed. Pour one cup of the simple syrup over all the rolls.

Bake for 30 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Glaze: 1/2 cup confectioners sugar, three tablespoons milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla or lemon flavoring. Mix thoroughly.

After you remove the rolls from the oven, pour glaze evenly over hot rolls and cover with aluminum foil. Let them sit for five minutes to allow the glaze to soak in.

Pouring on the glaze

These bake up so beautifully! The edges are slightly crispy. The center is moist and soft. My family has been devouring them with sighs of appreciation ever since I pulled them out. I even ate two of them myself with a cup of coffee. Sometimes, you just need a little blueberry sweet roll in your life. I’ll post a link to the video on the Facebook page once it’s uploaded.

I really hope you give this recipe a try! I also hope you leave me a comment or send me a message and let me know how it goes. And I hope even more that you share it and subscribe.

Y’all be sweet, ❤️🐝
