The Living Room Five!

Five minutes in the main living area can make a difference. Let me show you how these five steps can impact how you relax in this common area of your home.

My living room is my husband’s show room.

Not gonna lie, I have not spent as much time in this room of our home as I have in other rooms. It was a the encouragement of one of my girls (she literally dragged me to the store) that I spent a little time and money on this area and made it easier on the eyes. My biggest hang up? The deer. They are my husband’s pride and joy. They also are creepy and they stare at me when I watch tv or sit on the couch. Working with the deer and decor was hard until I decided to go with the woodland theme and incorporate nature into the equation. Some plants, prints of trees, wooden objects and shelving, greenery, and some pillows in faux fur helped soften the room and make it inviting for me. I sit in her now more than I ever have. Now, let’s give it five minutes each on these five tasks to make your living room a little less stressful on you.

Avoid clutter

The more you pack into a space the more it messes with your mind. Grab a basket, start a timer and get everything that doesn’t belong in there out of there. Not every surface needs to be covered with chochkies. You can set a five minute timer later for putting everything in your basket back where it belongs. For now, let’s focus on getting it out of the way. On your make, get set, GO!

Dust it! Dust it Good!

Get yourself a cheap pair of gloves, a sock over your hand, or a duster of your choice. Now, either spray your mitten or spray all the wooden surfaces and move your feet! Did you know that in five minutes or less you can dust most of the surfaces and shelves to get the top layer off and make the room smell fresh? Time for some rushin! Get to dustin!

Don’t forget your plants

Grab yourself a jug and fill it up with water, bonus points if you mix n a little plant food. In five minutes or less you can water your plants and give them a boost so they don’t look droopy for the holidays. While you’re there you can pinch off any brown leaves. Did you know that plants also like coffee and tea? the caffeine peps them up too!

Rugged beauty

In five minutes or less you can sweep or vacuum the rug or floors in your living room. Yes you can! Try to avoid powdered deodorizers that can build up in the fibers of carpets and rugs. Instead, grab a spray bottle of your favorite scent or deodorizer and give it a spritz after removing the dirt to add a fresh boost to your room. This step is totally optional. Don’t have any spray? Get a towel and add a dab of your favorite multipurpose cleaner and run it around a little. Works great!

Grab the glass cleaner

Hit the high points in the living room with a quick wipe down of anything glass. Mirrors, windows, glass doors; in five minutes or less you can spray the surfaces all at once and let the cleaner do the work for you as you make your way around the room. Spray it all, then walk around and wipe it all down. I bet you can get all your glass surfaces in five minutes or less! The fresh smell and shiny glass will have you smiling back at yourself in no time!

Success! You now have a space worthy of basking in. Grab yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the view. You’ve earned it! It is so much more enjoyable to relax in a fresh clean room. Luckily, it doesn’t have to take all day to make the living room space a great place to sit and bee! What can you do in your living room in five minutes or less? 1. I hate to be a party- pooper, but those deer would have to go. Is there an office or a space where your husband frequents that he could put them? By the way, did you ever finish the shed you were converting to be a space for you to video? I enjoy you little nuggets of wisdom, but miss your videos!

  2. How refreshing Bena!!!! Even though I’m 82, I believe I can do this! Thank you for the challenge!
